Homework Policy

1. Purposes of Homework:

• Consolidating Learning: To help students review classroom content, prepare for new topics, and foster self-directed learning skills
• Assessment and Feedback: To enable teachers to understand students’ learning difficulties, adjust teaching strategies, and provide timely feedback.
• Home-School Partnership: To help parents understand their children’s learning progress and support their learning together.
• Skill Development: To develop students’ self-discipline, thinking, collaboration, and creativity (e.g., through project-based learning, group presentations). To promote home-school cooperation, help parents establish reasonable expectations, and create a positive learning environment.

2. Principles of Homework Design:

• Diversity: Avoid mechanical copying; use forms such as preview tasks, experiments, and oral exercises.
• Relevance and Enjoyment: Connect homework to students’ life experiences and design challenging tasks.
• Catering for Diversity: Adapt homework content for students with special educational needs.
• Appropriate Amount and Differentiation: Daily homework time for lower grades (P1-P2) is approximately 30–45 minutes, and for upper grades (P5-P6) approximately 60–90 minutes.

3. Implementation and Arrangements:

• Coordinated Allocation: Subject teachers should communicate to avoid assigning excessive homework on the same day and balance the workload among Chinese, English, and Mathematics.
• Marking and Feedback:
    - Provide specific suggestions for improvement in addition to scores/grades.
    - Encourage self-assessment, peer assessment, and parental feedback.
• Homework Support: "Star Picking Class" is held on school days (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) to help students complete homework at school with teacher support, reducing after-school burden.
• In line with the Education Bureau’s "Primary Education Curriculum Guide" (2024) and the concept of "Creating Space for Whole-person Development," "Happy Wednesday" is designated as a no-homework day.

4. Types of Homework:

• Written homework (school-based assignments, worksheets, workbooks, extended exercises, etc.)
• Project-based learning (subject-based and cross-curricular)
• Preparation tasks
• Hands-on/practical tasks
• Online extended learning tasks

5. Role of Parents:

• Creating an Environment: Provide a quiet space and help establish a fixed daily homework time.
• Appropriate Guidance: Avoid giving direct answers; use questioning to encourage thinking.
• Communication and Cooperation: Regularly sign the student handbook and maintain communication with teachers.
